DAVE SURTASKY

DAVE SURTASKY is a photographer and theatre artist working in the Greater Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area. A native of York County, Pennsylvania, he is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania and has studied noh with Richard Emmert since 2006. He served as the Producing Director for the Noh Training Project 2007. Dave appeared in the 1989 Academy Award winning documentary The Johnstown Flood. His sound design work includes compositions for All in the Timing (1996), Minor Demons (2005) and Citizen/Soldier (2007). As lighting designer he collaborated with Japanese shamisen duo Nitto Oyako on their debut US tour. In 2005 he completed a commissioned score for the premiere performance of Deconstruction by dancers Boda / Koslowski. As lecturer for IUP he has focused on the areas Sound Design, Dance Production Methods and Sound Reinforcement Theory & Implementation. Dave was the author of: Bell & Clock, Camera Obscura and Black Palace Pink Party. Bell & Clock was produced and directed by Greg Giovanni at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival 2000, and Black Palace Pink Party was performed for the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival 2004. His photographic work has appeared in PA Presenters Newsletter, Inside Magazine, The Blairsville Dispatch, The Indiana Gazette and Theatre Topics Journal. Dave is member of Phi Mu Alpha Simphonia (2007 Orpheus Award Recipient) and Phi Kappa Psi National Honor Fraternity. Principle instruments include Violin and French Horn. Since 1989 Dave has served as Technical Director for IUP's College of Fine Arts.
